Spill Control

Off-normal ethanol spills and their associated risks are a concern for distilleries. This course discusses these spills and their related risks at various points in the production process, including still leaks, barrel fill or dump, aging oak cooperage leaks, proofing or blending tank spills, packaging line, and bulk transport. You will review available containment systems ranging from deployable berms and drainage to engineering controls, such as curbed containment pits.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the production process and identify areas of DSP with increased risks of ethanol spills
2. Reduce risk of spills by applying the hierarchy of control
