The global distilled spirits market can be daunting for new entrants and veterans alike, with its maze of domestic and international regulations, differing product requirements, and critical marketplace considerations. This Elective Course will detail the requirements necessary to legally import and export distilled spirits, enable participants to evaluate and understand these foreign markets, and share best practices based on the expertise of our panelists.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the legal requirements related to importing and exporting distilled spirits products and some of the nuances associated with these activities
2. Gain an education in the complex world of customs bonded warehouses and foreign trade zones, direct imports and importers of record, and domestic permit requirements
3. Evaluate routes to export markets to determine what method works the best, how to foster relationships with partners abroad, and troubleshoot factors specific to these markets
4. Gain the tools to analyze foreign markets for legal obstacles, such as product classifications or requirements and approved bottle sizes, and best build your brand export/import portfolio for success

    Ryan Malkin is an attorney focusing on alcohol beverage and cannabis law. He has extensive experience providing guidance to suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, agencies, and third parties within these regulated industries.     Ryan’s passion for the alcohol industry began as a staff writer for SmartMoney. Ryan specialized in travel and hospitality writing, with an emphasis on the beverage alcohol industry, covering both brands and category trends. Ryan regularly interviewed executives, brand owners, producers, and industry experts to provide guidance to readers. Ryan also regularly interviewed nightclub and bar owners, designers, managers, and doormen to bring new ventures and cocktail trends to life, and giving Ryan insight into the bar and nightclub business. His articles have appeared in such publications as Beverage Media, Liquor.com, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, DJTimes, and Esquire to name a few

    Ryan was named as a Top Alcohol Beverage Lawyer in South Florida in 2021 by South Florida Legal Guide, with Malkin Law also being a Top Alcohol Beverage Law Firm. Ryan was the Top Alcohol Beverage lawyer in South Florida in the 2020 South Florida Legal Guide. Ryan was named a SuperLawyer and Rising Star in the legal community. Ryan was named one of the top
    250 cannabis law experts.
