Insurance

Insurance is a key protective measure for any distillery. This course provides an introduction to the vast array of business insurance requirements related to the operation of a distillery in the United States. It includes a checklist of insurance needs and covers common insurance errors, what to look for in an insurance specialist or consultant, and how to research specific state-by-state insurance requirements.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand insurance requirements, liabilities, and the working vocabulary related to business insurance, including ACV, appraisals, claims, liability, deductibles, and tort
2. Move through a checklist of general business and distillery specific insurance, including:

f. Errors and omissions
g. Business Owners Policy (BOP)
h. Tools and equipment
i. Workers compensation
j. Cyber liability
k. Umbrella
l. Key man
m. Annex
n. Distillery specific requirements, like inventory, environmental hazards, liquor liability, pollution liability, product recalls, and alcohol service
3. Find experienced insurance experts and consultants and vet a potential candidate
4. Research individual state and county insurance requirements
5. Learn about yearly, bi-yearly, or quarterly review of insurance programs to guard against lapses, violations, and ensure proper coverage is maintained
